December 23,,2016 - Ghana

Simon Srugi Salesian Novitiate Community celebrated her annual community day/Rector’s birthday on the 20 th of December 2017. It was indeed a very happy and joyous day in the community for the young people, the workers, students and the Salesians who came around to celebrate with the Srugi community.

The day started with some surprises as the members of the community took the Rector unaware while he was still asleep; with a happy birthday song, sang with lighted candles, the Rector was asked to say his wishes and blow the candles, which he did.

In the evening, the main celebration took place in the courtyard, many invited dignitaries; young people, Salesians, workers and students graced the occasion. The celebration started at 6:30pm after the finals of the Srugi Tournament, which was organized in honor of the Rector’s Birthday. The Rector dressed as NaNa and he came in with some escorts. The evening prayer commenced, after which Fr. Damian with the use of the constitution gave the welcome speech and explained the meaning of the celebration. The novices with their marvelous voices welcomed everybody to the gathering. There were a series of presentations by the novices, the Mazarrello girls and the workers as the celebration went on.

After the presentations of gifts and the trophies of the tournament, the Rector expressed his inner feelings of joy; he thanked the community and other invited dignitaries for coming to celebrate with him. The celebration came to an end after prayer and final blessing by the Rector.
