March 7,,2017 - Sierra Leone
An urban bus from Badajoz, Spain will soon be transformed into “Don Bosco on Wheels” and from 1st April will start to run the streets of Freetown during the night in order to con- tact, socialize and detect small street kids, boys and girls, who are most vulnerable. The bus will park in strategic areas of Freetown. A group of Salesians, social workers, nurse and vol- unteers will receive the children, listen to their stories, offer sanitary and medical care, food and drinks and organize workshops, counselling and group discussions to address issues concerning the welfare and respect of rights of children living on the streets. The service will also offer free HIV testing and counselling to children, teens and young people who are willing to know their HIV status. The main aim of the programme is to seek for rapid reunifi- cation of children who have spent a short period of time in the streets to their families of origen. The Project is sponsored for one year by Atabal Foundation with the support of AEX- CID (government of Extremadura, Spain) and Tubasa. The bus is on its way to Freetown and during the month of March will be reconditioned to serve the aims of the programme and on the 1st of April the programme will start activities with a press conference and official blessing by the Archbishop of Freetown.
